The storage industry is changing – and so are we
Plastic waste is a significant problem for the environment. Many disposed forms of plastic lie around for decades or even hundreds of years, and even those that do break down can end up in the food chain as micro-plastics, harming animals and even ending up in our bodies.
Driven by this awareness, combined with customer demand, government regulations and the decisions of leading self-storage providers, the storage industry is reducing its reliance on single-use plastic.
For example:
- Our Box multipacks are packaged with a single strap rather than shrink-wrapped in layers of harmful plastic.
- Mattress and furniture covers are supplied wrapped in cardboard envelopes rather than put inside plastic bags.
- Items such as padlocks, marker pens, safety knives and tape dispensers are often sold in cardboard boxes instead of plastic blister packs.
- We sell Bio bubble wrap which degrades 30% quicker than ordinary bubble wrap.
One supplier that is introducing these product alternatives is Simpson Packaging, an SSA UK supplier member that has recently launched a complete range of sustainable, environmentally friendly packaging products.
While there is always room for improvement, we are delighted to see these positive changes and support them wherever we can.
How self-storage can help you reduce your environmental footprint
Workflow efficiency can have a huge impact on the environment. Making multiple van journeys when moving home, or ordering several batches of stock due to storage limitations will add up to more road miles and associated pollution. By choosing secure self-storage, you can help give the planet space to breathe.
