This month, we spoke with Lee from At Home Dental, the organisation behind Big Brush Club who work on behalf of the NHS and local councils with thousands of schools, nurseries and community groups across the South of England. Lee helps manage the logistics behind a programme dedicated to improving oral health education for children and families.
What inspired At Home Dental to focus on oral health education?
We believe that oral health is closely linked to overall health. Through Big Brush Club, we help children, parents, carers, teachers and nursery staff understand how to look after their teeth properly from an early age.
Our aim is to give children the knowledge and habits they need to maintain good oral health throughout their lives, helping to prevent avoidable dental problems and giving them a healthier start.
Who do you work with, and why is this work so important?
We work with around 2,500 settings across the South of England, including nurseries, preschools, playgroups, primary schools, family hubs and community centres. We also support refugee groups, traveller communities and other vulnerable populations where access to oral health education can make a real difference.
The need is significant. Tooth decay affects many young children and remains one of the leading causes of hospital admissions for children. Poor oral health can lead to pain, missed school days and ongoing health issues, so helping children develop healthy habits early can have a lasting impact.
How does your storage unit support the day-to-day running of the business?
We deliver programmes across the whole of the South of England, so having a central storage hub is essential.
We manage supplies for a number of different contracts with local authorities and councils, all of which require different resources. Having everything stored in one secure location allows us to keep stock organised and distribute materials efficiently to schools, nurseries and community settings whenever they’re needed.
The unit has become much more than just a storage space. With a well-planned shelving and racking system, we’re able to organise stock effectively and make the most of the available space. We’ve even set up a dedicated workstation within the unit, which I use on a daily basis to manage inventory, prepare and package orders, and coordinate deliveries. It functions as an extension of our business operations, helping us work efficiently while keeping everything we need in one place
What kinds of items do you store?
A large proportion of our stock is made up of toothbrushes, toothpaste, educational resources and take-home oral health kits for different age groups. We also store toothbrush racks and supplies for community outreach programmes.
The other side of the business, At Home Dental, is a mobile and domiciliary dental service, where dentists visit patients in their own homes. The storage unit is used to hold uniforms and operational supplies for those teams as well, making it an important part of both sides of the business.

Flexibility is incredibly important for us because deliveries arrive throughout the day and our team often needs access outside standard office hours so the fact that we have access from 7am until 8pm is ideal.
The rear loading access for businesses is particularly valuable, allowing larger delivery vehicles to load and unload stock easily.
As a business that regularly receives stock and ships resources to schools and community settings across the South of England, having both incoming parcels received and outgoing parcels collected on our behalf saves us a significant amount of time and helps keep everything running smoothly.
